Thicker FOAMGLAS® brings
increased economy
& greater environmental benefits

Pittsburgh Corning, the manufacturer of
FOAMGLAS® cellular glass insulation announces an advancement
in its manufacturing facilities which enables FOAMGLAS® blocks
to be produced up to 180mm thick. This brings immediate economic
benefits for on-site installation as the number of separate layers
needed on large industrial insulation applications such as storage
tanks, etc., can be reduced with resultant time/cost savings. For
smaller fabrications such as pipe shells, elbows and segments, the
number of joints required is reduced speeding up both production
and installation.
Environmentally, FOAMGLAS® provides outstanding
benefits - it is manufactured from 100% pure glass, of which 66%
is recycled post-consumer waste. Expanded 20 times at 1000ºC
to form millions of hermetically-sealed cells, FOAMGLAS® contains
no environmentally damaging CFCs, HCFCs, HFAs, or Pentane. FOAMGLAS®
remains totally stable in its insulation performance over decades
of use and so brings additional savings in the utilisation of natural
resources.
Effective in the temperature range -273ºC
(absolute zero) to +482ºC FOAMGLAS® is totally non-combustible,
retarding the spread of fire and emitting no toxic fumes or gases
- it is therefore the ideal insulant for improved fire safety in
industrial, pharmaceutical and oil and gas applications.
FOAMGLAS® is also uniquely 100% closed-cell
making it totally impermeable to water, water vapour and liquids
of any type and will not wick or absorb leakages, adding substantially
to site safety.
