Book Description:

Low energy (thermal) electrons can react with neutral molecules in the gas phase to produce negative ions. Organic molecules that contain functional groups as halogens, phosphorous, or nitro groups have a high electron affinity and are most likely to capture thermal electrons. This book describes how the electron capture detector (ECD) for gas chromatography is used to determine the concentration of such compounds as well as to probe the kinetics and thermodynamics of the reactions of thermal electrons with molecules.
