Intended as a reference work for research engineers and advanced graduate students, this book discusses and reviews the underlying mechanics of creating a fracture from vertical or deviated wellbores and the propagation of a hydraulic fracture in the reservoir. The book is divided into three parts: fracture simulation in vertical wellbores; the initiation and propagation of a hydraulic fracture from deviated or horizontal wellbores; and reviews of the results of important experiments conducted in laboratories and in the field.
